Privacy policy

This policy explains what happens to information when you use FLAMES Calculator at https://flamescalculator.co.in. The short version: the names you type never reach us.

The names you enter

The FLAMES calculation runs entirely inside your own browser using JavaScript on your device. The two names you type are never transmitted to us, never written to a server, and never stored in any database. We have no way to see them, because we never receive them.

We also do not save them on your device. The names are never written to cookies, local storage or session storage. Close the tab and they are gone.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics (through Firebase) to understand how many people visit and which pages they read.

It sets Google Analytics cookies and reports to Google:

• the pages you view and when;
• your approximate location, derived from your IP address;
• your device type, browser and screen size;
• how you arrived — a search engine, a shared link, or directly.

Analytics here also has Google signals turned on. That is a setting inside Google Analytics rather than a separate tool. If you are signed in to a Google account with ads personalisation enabled, it lets Google link this visit to that account instead of treating it as anonymous, and adds an estimated age range, gender and interest category to what we see in aggregate. It also sends a request to a Google advertising domain — google.com, or google.co.in from India — which Google can use to build remarketing audiences.

We do not use those audiences ourselves. You can turn ads personalisation off for every site at once in your Google ad settings.

This is measured in aggregate to tell us whether the site is working, not to identify you. The names you type are never sent to Google or to anyone else — they are not part of any analytics event, and the calculation still happens entirely on your device.

Our host also runs Cloudflare Web Analytics, a second script that counts page views and load times. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and cannot follow you to other sites.

Advertising

The site is paid for by ads served through Google AdSense.The names you type are never passed to the ads. On the result page the names sit after the # in the address, a part that browsers keep to themselves and never include in requests to any server — ours, Google’s or anyone else’s.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or to other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising in your Google ad settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. Google explains what it does with data from sites that show its ads inHow Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

If you opt out, you will still see ads; they just will not be based on your browsing.

Other third parties

Google Analytics, Google AdSense and Cloudflare Web Analytics are the only third-party scripts on the site. The Product Hunt badge on the home page is an image served by Product Hunt, so they can see the request for it.

If you would rather not be counted, any browser-level tracking blocker, or Google’s own opt-out add-on, will stop it. The calculator works exactly the same either way.

Share links

When you share a result the link contains the two names encoded. The encoding is intentionally not human-readable, so the names are not readable at a glance in a chat preview or a browser history list. This is obfuscation for the sake of the surprise, not for security.Anyone with a link can decrypt and see both names, so treat a share link as public and share it only with people you want to show it to.

Feedback you send us

The feedback box at the foot of the calculator and the result page is the one part of this site that sends us anything. When you press send, what you wrote goes to a spreadsheet we read, together with the address of the page you were on, your browser’s user agent string, and your email address if you chose to give one. Nothing is sent unless you press the button.

The two names you typed are never part of it. The page address is sent without its query string — which is the part a result link carries the names in — so a message sent from a result page tells us that it came from a result page and nothing more. Please leave anything personal out of the box as well; we have no use for it.

Messages are kept until they have been dealt with. If you would like yours removed, write to hello@flamescalculator.co.in and say roughly when you sent it.

Hosting and server logs

Our hosting provider serves the site as static files. Like basically all web hosts, the provider processes basic technical information to serve pages and to protect against abuse. This usually includes your IP address, the page you asked for, the time of the request, and the user agent string of your browser.

This processing is done at the infrastructure level and is not something we collect, combine or use to build any profile of you. We don’t have access to it in a form that identifies individuals.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The calculator itself collects nothing from anyone. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the feedback box, write to us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Under data protection law you have the right to access, correct and erase personal data held about you. Beyond the feedback messages described above, we do not hold a database of personal data. What Google Analytics collects is held by Google, and their own controls cover access and deletion. If you think differently, write to us and we will check it out.

Changes to this policy

If we ever add something that changes this picture — analytics, advertising, or any feature that stores your data — we will update this page and change the date at the top before that feature goes live.
